Healthy Eating in Brantford: Extra Virgin Olive Oil vs Seed Oils
Healthy Eating in Brantford: Extra Virgin Olive Oil vs Seed Oils
Welcome to the first official HEALTHYrabbit blog.
The HEALTHYrabbit is a healthy restaurant in Brantford focused on whole-food meals, healthy lunches, healthy desserts, catering, fresh ingredients, and nutrient-dense options for families, professionals, and students.
One of the biggest areas we're focused on right now is ingredient quality. That includes using extra virgin olive oil whenever possible, reducing highly processed ingredients, and introducing menu items made from simple, recognizable foods.
As part of that commitment, we're excited to begin rolling out our new seed-oil-free wraps.
Unlike many commercial wraps, ours are made fresh daily by our Red Seal Chef using a simple four-ingredient recipe. Dough balls are prepared fresh each morning and, when ordered, each wrap is pressed and cooked fresh to order.
For now, we're introducing them gradually while we fine-tune production and service speed. Some guests will receive them immediately, while others may need to wait until our daily supply expands. Our goal is to ensure quality and consistency before rolling them out across the entire menu.
Why We Care About Ingredient Quality
At The HEALTHYrabbit, we believe healthy food starts with healthy ingredients.
Many packaged and restaurant foods contain highly processed ingredients that most people would never use in their own kitchens. We prefer a different approach: real ingredients, prepared thoughtfully, with as much transparency as possible.
Whether you're choosing a salad, bowl, wrap, smoothie, healthy dessert, or catered meal, our goal is to make it easier to eat food you can feel good about.
What Is Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
Extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade of olive oil available.
It is produced by mechanically pressing olives without excessive heat or chemical solvents. Because it undergoes minimal processing, it retains naturally occurring compounds found within the olive itself.
These include antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamin E, and healthy monounsaturated fats.
Extra virgin olive oil has been a cornerstone of Mediterranean diets for thousands of years and remains one of the most widely respected traditional fats in the world.
Why Harvest Date Matters
Many people assume all olive oil is the same, but freshness matters.
When shopping for extra virgin olive oil, we recommend looking for:
• Harvest date
• Region of origin
• Olive variety
• Producer information
• Dark glass packaging
Just like fresh produce, olive oil gradually loses flavour and antioxidant content over time. Quality producers are proud to tell customers where their olives were grown and when they were harvested.
What Are Seed Oils?
Seed oils are oils extracted from seeds such as soybean, canola, corn, sunflower, safflower, and cottonseed.
Many commercial seed oils undergo extensive refining before reaching restaurant kitchens or grocery store shelves.
Consumers are increasingly paying attention to ingredient quality and asking more questions about how food is produced. While nutrition science continues to evolve, many people are moving toward whole foods and less processed ingredients whenever possible.
That philosophy aligns closely with how we approach food at The HEALTHYrabbit.
Introducing Our Fresh Seed-Oil-Free Wraps
One of the most exciting projects currently underway at The HEALTHYrabbit is our new fresh wrap program.
Every morning, our Red Seal Chef prepares fresh dough balls using a simple four-ingredient recipe.
When a customer orders a wrap:
• The dough is pressed fresh
• The wrap is cooked fresh
• The meal is assembled to order
This process takes more effort than opening a package, but we believe the final product is worth it.
Freshly pressed wraps provide a better eating experience while allowing us greater control over ingredient quality.
As we continue refining the process, availability will increase until the wraps become a standard offering throughout our menu.
